Welcome! Dear colleagues and friends, It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 24th Annual Meeting of the Scandinavian Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy in Tampere, Finland. Through the years, the annual SSAC meetings have proved to serve as the primary occasions for Nordic professionals and students working in the fields of infectious diseases and clinical microbiology to meet and discuss timely questions in a relaxed atmosphere. I believe that the SSAC 2007 in Tampere will be a memorable continuation to the long tradition of successful annual meetings of the Society. The city of Tampere was founded in 1779 by the King of Sweden Gustav III. Today, Tampere is the third largest city in Finland, with a population of 200,000. The centre of the city is situated on an isthmus between two lakes, and the Tammerkoski rapids run through the city. Tampere is easy to reach, with several daily direct flights from Stockholm, Copenhagen, and Helsinki. In the local organizing committee, we are working hard to create an attractive scientific program for all participants. The venue of the meeting, Tampere Hall, is located in the heart of the city, and it provides excellent facilities for the congress. In addition to the educational aspects of the meeting, we will do our best to put up a social program that will make your visit to Tampere enjoyable and leave you with pleasant memories of the congress. On behalf of all members of the organizing committee, I wish you a warm welcome to Tampere!
